六、报告简介:
Image enhancement of satellite images refers to increased capacity and exploitation of one or multiple images of the same scene. The output image(s) will have higher potential uses due to extended configuration in spatial-spectral, or even temporal dimensions. Plastic is an important material indispensable in every aspect of our daily life. Significant international efforts to motivate remote sensing research for marine plastic started since about 2017-18. The subject matter is most suitable for spatial and spectral enhancement as high resolution (submeter) full stretch hyperspectral data needed for plastic characterization do not exist, and will not exist in next decades. In this talk, I will use marine plastic as an example of ultimate challenge for image enhancement research in the next decades. Spatial and spectral enhancement methods will continue to be highly sought after and exciting. Note that anything involves water is thousandfold more challenging. We need to systematically verify various aspects of the enhanced products at demo level with adequate training data and groundtruth. Without which, enhancement research will be kept at bay, difficult to be diffused to societal benefits.
